Saturday afternoon in the WCHA:
Minnesota 9, Wisconsin 4
The Gophers saw the value of scoring early and often, getting goals
in the first minute in periods 1 and 2. The game was a bit closer than
the score would indicate, as the Badgers were robbed of two sure goals
by the inspired "goaltending" of Minnesota defenseman Luke Johnson, who
made stops when goalie Jeff Stolp was well out of position. Minnesota
dominated the first two periods, but Wisconsin played a strong third
period, never giving up. The rematch is at 2:05 CST Sunday afternoon
in Mariucci Arena.
SHOTS GOALS
Minnesota 9 - 11 - 8 28 3 5 1 9
Wisconsin 11 - 12 - 7 30 1 1 2 4
Winning goaltender was Jeff Stolp of Minnesota. Duane Derksen played
the first two periods for Wisconsin, and was replaced by Jon Michelizzi
in the third.
