I wouldn't be surprised if the BU band had in fact taken the idea
of "Jaws" from MSU or whoever. Frequently bands get ideas from
other bands and make them their own. For example, after Wisconsin
visited Northeastern in January 1987, the Wisconsin fans (who
seemed to outnumber the NU fans, but it was an off year) marched
through the lobby and out into the Boston streets chanting, "When
you say Wis-con-sin, you've said it all!" Almost immediately
afterwards, the NU band picked up on it and now their top song is
"When you say North-east-ern, you've said it all!" It flows well
since Northeastern is another three-syllable word that has its
accent on the second syllable. I'm sure that quite a few Huskie
fans think that is an original.

Things are usually pretty tame in Hockey East, but with regard to
Maine's "M...A...I...N...E...GOOOOO BLUE!!!", I just have to tell
this story. (I think I mentioned it before, so some of you may have
heard this.) During the Hockey East Championship Game at BC in
1989, Maine vs. BC, the Black Bear fans, despite being greatly
outnumbered, kept standing up and doing their cheer - EVERY stoppage
of play. In the middle of the second period, after about the one
millionth "GO BLUE" cheer, the ENTIRE balcony at Conte Forum (about
2500-3000 BC students) suddenly stood up and loudly chanted,

          "F...U...C...K...F*CK YOU!"

I have never heard 8000 hockey fans laugh that loud before or since.
I think even Commish Stu Haskell was smiling.

p.s. to Maine people: you have to admit, it WAS funny. And the Black
Bears got the last laugh, they won the title on BC's home ice.
