CCHA PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK: Ohio State sophomore goalie Mike Bales has been
named CCHA Player-of-the-Week for the first weekend in November.
Bales, a 6-0, 185 lb. native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, recorded both Buckeye
wins in a home-and-home sweep of Miami. For the weekend, Bales stopped 65 of
69 shots (.942) and three of the four goals he allowed were on Redskin power
plays. Bales made 34 saves in a 5-3 win Friday in Columbus. In Saturday's
contest at Miami, Bales stopped 31 of 32 shots.
Bales was a June 1990 draft pick of the Boston Bruins. This is the second
time that he has been named CCHA Player-Of-The-Week.
[Keith's honorable mention: BG's Brett Harkins was awesome in the sweep
of MSU (7 points). But, he won the POTW last week, so Bales got it this
week. But Mike should have won it 2 weeks ago.]

NOTES
CCHA Directory Changes: Michigan State hockey intern/SID Mark Kunstmann has
accepted the full-time assistant sports information director position at
Bowling Green State University, his alma mater. Lori Schulze, an assistant
sports information director at Michigan State, will handle hockey the
remainder of the season for the Spartans.
Fast Starts: University of Michigan right wing Denny Felsner's 13 goals in
eight games matches last year's eight game goal total by Spartan Kip Miller.
The start by Felsner is only surpassed by one other CCHA player, UIC forward
Ray Staszak (14 goals in 1984-1985). Northern Michigan's Dave Mogush also
scored 13 goals in the first eight games at the start of the 1981-82 season.
Dowd one-point from LSSU record: Lake Superior senior Jim Dowd currently
ranks second on the all-time Laker point list with 211 points (71 goals, 140
assists) after tallying five points in the LSSU sweep at UIC. Julio Francella
holds down the number one spot with 212 career points.
Smith's point-streak reaches 14 games: Ohio State junior center David Smith
has scored at least one point in the last 14 Buckeye games (eight games this
season, last six games last year). He had two assists Friday and a goal and
an assist Saturday.
Harkins continues to lead BG offense: Last week's CCHA Player-of-the-Week
Brett Harkins, followed up last weekend's performance with a seven-point
series vs. Michgian State. With the score tied at one Friday, he set up the
next two Falcon scores. In Saturday's game, he had two goals and three
assists in BG's 5-4 win.
Two OT Game-Winners, both on the PP: Two Friday night contests were decided
on power play goals in overtime. At UIC, Lake Superior's Jim Dowd scored at
3:15 of overtime after UIC's Dominic Dunlap had tied the score with 46 seconds
left in regulation. In Ann Arbor, Michigan's Denny Felsner scored an
unassisted goal just 17 seconds into OT. The Wolverines tied the score at
18:04 of the third period on the same five-minute power play.
Mazzoli strong in second start: Ferris State freshman netminder Pat Mazzoli
made 51 saves in Saturday's 7-3 win at Michigan. Mazzoli stopped all 21
