While reading a college hockey weekly, I was shocked to learn that
technically, Clarkson, Boston U, Maine and N Michigan didnt make it to
the Final Four last year. Unfortunately, I don't have the name of the mag
just the article a friend cut out (OK, I didnt really read the whole mag), but
here's the content:
 
"The NCAA has informed the ECAC that the term "Final Four" has been
 copyrightedfor use by the NCAA Mens' and Womens' Basketball Championships only
 and that
no one else is authorized to use the term, including NCAA hockey or any
conference. The NCAA, through Phillip A. Buttafuoco, has threatened legal action
 if the ECAC were to use the term "Final Four" in conjuction with the ECAC
Tournament. Futher, Mr. Buttafuoco has stated that the "hockey community" has a
 'responsibility' to protect basketball's exclusive use of this phrase. Does
 anyone wonder why many of us in the 'hockey community' would prefer to separate
 from
the NCAA?"
 
 
	Just another addition to the "Just when you thought you've seen
it all..." department.
 
	MY COMMENTARY: You've got to be kidding?!!!!! Are the big-wigs in
basketball really that threatened by college hockey? Basically, all they're
 contesting is the ECAC's use of the two capital letters. If the ECAC were to
 call
its semis the "final four", it wouldn't be a proper noun and therefore not the
same as the "copyrighted" term used by the basketball bozos.
	A subtle message to the stiff necks in NCAA basketball hierarchy:
"Get a _____ life!!"
