Not to pile on, but it's the rest of the athletic leagues that
have got it wrong, not Hockey East. The rest of the country may
think of the Amherst campus as THE University of Massachusetts; I
suppose that's to be expected given that, as Sean observed, the
University doesn't field nationally known teams from most of its
other campuses. Those of us who spent any time growing up in
Massachusetts, however, have always referred to the Amherst
campus as UMass-Amherst, as does the University itself, the state
government and virtually any newspaper in the Commonwealth.
Sorry, Leigh. Just be happy that Amherst College doesn't have a
Division I hockey team in Hockey East also!

On an irrelevant note, Sean's note had Massachusetts and
Minnesota as the only two states fielding Div. I hockey teams
from more than one state campus. I had always thought that
Michigan, Michigan State and Lake Superior State were part of the
same state university system. Am I wrong? If so, would someone
who knows better explain it to me? (Why is it an irrelevant note
- you ask? Because all three schools have such different names,
even if I am right and they are in the same system, they do not
present the UMass/UMinn confusion issue.)
