It was announced tonight at the Merrimack banquet that senior
defenseman Mark Cornforth signed a two-game tryout deal with Syracuse
of the AHL. The transactions column of the local paper indicates that
Travis Tucker, formerly of UMass-Lowell, also signed with Syracuse, a
team looking to shore up its defense.
Cornforth was named one of Merrimack's two MVPs for 1994-95 and
tallied 8-20--28 in 30 games with 93 penalty minutes. His 5 PPGs tied
him for the team lead. He served as captain this season.
In his career, Cornforth finished with 17-60--77.
Also captain of the Warrior tennis team as a first singles player,
Cornforth will likely return to Merrimack next week and continue
playing tennis along with finishing out his degree. He has been named
to the HE All-Academic Honor Roll in each of his first three years and
could become the school's third Distinguished Scholar (only 5 HE players
in history have been so honored) if he attains that goal again this
season.
