Some quick notes:

All of Team Canada's goals were somewhat quirky. Actually,
the first was a decent goal scored by former Spartan Michael
Burkett (yuk). The original shot came from the right point, went
through 5-6 players and was deflected at least once (Burkett)
before going past Marty Turco. Hard to fault Marty. The second
goal was a total fluke as a high shot, clearly going wide left, hit
a Team Canada player (in the chest? pelvis?) skating near the
crease and changed directions right into the open side. The
third goal was a pseudo-empty netter when Turco managed to
play the puck to Team Canada before getting back into the
net. (Granted, this will happen with a wandering goaltender,
but I feel more comfortable with Marty going into the corner
than I did when Steve Shields attempted it. Earlier in the game,
Turco charged out to poke check a potential breakaway...and
managed to get within a foot or two of the blueline. The next
Garth Snow?) The fourth goal was something you don't see
too often, a 3-on-0 shorthanded breakaway. :-(

Team Canada was bigger, stronger, chumpier, older, etc,
etc, etc. It was evident that this was a professional team
versus a collegiate team. Many of the 6500 fans left the arena
pondering why the game was even scheduled. Michigan
is unlikely to face this level of physicalness, holding, corner
work, etc at the collegiate level...even from Lake Superior.
The end toll was three injured UM forwards. The early report
is that senior Ron Sacka (groin) will be out 3-8 weeks, while
senior captain Rick Willis and sophomore Jason Botterill
are probable for the Lake Superior series this weekend.
The injury to Sacka leaves Michigan with 12 forwards on the
roster and, obviously, less than 12 healthy ones.

For anyone interested, the Team Canada roster with 1993-94
team is given below.

2 D Mike Johnson (Ottawa OHL)
4 D Jamie Heward (Cleveland IHL)
  5 D Marc Hussey (St John's AHL)
6 D Jeff Sebastian (Louisville ECHL)
7 F Guy Leveque (Los Angeles NHL)
8 F Chris Bright (South Carolina ECHL)
9 F Yanick Dube (Laval QMJHL)
10 F David St Pierre (Saint John AHL)
11 F Michael Burkett (Michigan State CCHA)
 12 F Mark Kaufmann (Italy)
14 F Mike Maneluk (Brandon WHL)
16 F Danny Beauregard (Chicoutimi QMJHL)
18 F Jamie Leach (Cincinnati IHL)
19 F Marc Terris (Concordia College)
21 D Peter Allen (Richmond ECHL)
22 F Joel Savage (Fort Wayne IHL)
23 F Shayne Green (Erie ECHL)
29 G Andrew Verner (Cape Breton AHL)
35 G Sean Gauthier (Moncton AHL)

Gauthier was solid in goal. Scoring phenom Dube did not
play. This roster is not complete, but this is what was given
at the game. I also remember a player named Corpse. To
my knowledge, it's the same Jamie Leach who was one of
the resident goons on at least one Pittsburgh Stanley Cup
team.
