   Thanks for the kind words.  It was sad to see the Gophers' season end a few
few games too soon, but at least they lost in a hard-fought struggle against a
classy team like Maine.
   Skating cheerleaders may be a novelty out east, but not around here.
Nearly every high school in Minnesota that has a hockey team has cheerleaders
on skates.  (My niece has been captain of the hcokey cheerleaders at her high
school the past two years.)  Other WCHA schools that have skating cheerleaders
include North Dakota and Minnesota-Duluth.  Wisconsin's cheerleaders do not
skate.
   When you refer to Gomer, I suspect you mean Goldy Gopher, the Gophers'
mascot.  You probably weren't formally introduced. :-)  Gomer is a great name,
though.  I'll have to keep it in mind.
   I hope to see the Gophers play the Black Bears at Alfond Arena some day.
The rivalry that has developed between the two schools has produced some
excellent hockey.
