Time to present the Hockeyfest '91 Awards, selected by Steve Kapetanakis
    and Mike Machnik.

Best Cheer: Consisted of one letter: "T"; whenever St. Lawrence would chant
    "S L U", the Cornell band would scream "T".

Best Cheer #2: SLU fans, when Clarkson did "Let's Go Tech", followed by two
or three SLU folks chanting "Disco-tecque".

Best Sign: Award goes to BU. Sign read: "BC sucks but MAINE swallows". Ouch.

Crybaby of the Weekend: Shawn Walsh for his tirades during and after the
HE Championship game. Quote: "BU deserves a lot of credit for winning...
but we played without two defensemen. They can take this one away from
us, but they can't take away the number one seed in the East." [in
the end, though, he was right.]

Coach of the Weekend: Shawn Walsh. He just plain outcoached Jack Parker
for most of the HE Championship Game, no two ways around it. His throwing
up a white towel in mock surrender near the end of the first period, when
referee Frank Cole sent Keith Carney and Scott Lachance to the box to
smash the Championship Game record for penalties and penalty minutes in
a game, *all in one period*, undoubtedly had an effect on Cole. Cole
called 36 minutes in the first period alone, only 20 over the last 42:19
    of the game.

Couple of the Weekend: Jeremy Hall and his girlfriend; these two lovebirds
had to suffer through the ECAC Championship Game rooting for opposite
teams. Details please, Jeremy; any fights?

Player of the Weekend: Hugo Belanger from Clarkson, hat-trick in final
(3-1--4). Close second is BU's Shawn McEachern (1-3--4).

Most Exciting Player of the Weekend: McEachern - who else? He had no
points with eight minutes left in the game and he ended up tying the
record for points in a Championship Game (1-2--3). He assisted on
BU's tying and go-ahead goals at 12:01 and 17:45 before Keith Carney
tied it, then he blew by a Maine defender and beat Garth Snow for
the game-winner at 2:19 of overtime.

Best Game of the Weekend: Without a doubt, BU/Maine HE Final. One of the
most exciting college hockey games I've ever seen in person.

Best Nickname of the Weekend: Mikko "Rikki Tikki" Tavi, Clarkson.

2nd Best Nickname of the Weekend: Steve "Salt 'n'" Tepper, Maine.

 Other Good Hockeyfest '91 Nicknames:
    Bob "Non-Dairy" Creamer, Providence.
    Mario Aube "Bee", Providence.
    Tony "That's" Amonte, BU.
Scott "Just one more" Lachance, BU.
    Peter "The Hawaiian" Ahola, BU.
    Keith "Gesundheit" Tkachuk, BU.
    Kent "Hounds of" Manderville, Cornell.
    Bruce "Ace" Frauley, Cornell.
Joe "Puff the Magic" Dragon, Cornell.
    Phil Nobel "Prize", Cornell.
    Geoff "Dagwood" Bumstead, Cornell.
Parris "Get off your" Duffus, Cornell.
    Spencer "For Hire" Meany, SLU.
Greg "Ice Cream Man" Carvel, SLU.
    Paul Spagnoletti "and Meatballs", SLU.
    Michael Gaul "Bladder", SLU.
    Randy "Mrs." Olson, Maine.
    Tony "The Missing" Link, Maine.
    Chris Imes "of March", Maine.
Garth "Pure as the driven" Snow, Maine.
    Sebastien "Eggs" LaPlante, NU.
Peter "Raise your hand if you're" Schure, NU.
    Sean "Shower" Curtin, NU.
    Joel "Arch" Bishop, NU.
    Paul "Father" Flanagan, NU.
    Mike "Mister" Roberts, NU.
    Tom "Nat King" Cole, NU.
    Mike "Tuna" Casselman, Clarkson.
    Guy "Turk" Sanderson, Clarkson.
    Dave "Moving Man" Trombley, Clarkson.
    Matt Mallgrave "Digger", Harvard.
    Gus "The" Gardner, Harvard.
    Michael "Black" Francis, Harvard.

Biggest Coaching Blunder of the Weekend: SLU coach Joe Marsh for not pulling
the goalie until there were only 10 seconds left, trailing Clarkson 5-4
and needing a win to go to the NCAAs.

Crybaby #2 of the Weekend: SLU goalie Les Kuntar after Clarkson scored its
fifth goal (too bad David Emma missed out on his opportunity to be in
the running for this award). Kuntar slammed his stick, punched the glass
and screamed at the goal judge for several minutes while the judge sat
    and grinned.

Best and LOUDEST Fans: goes to Cornell; a Cornell/Clarkson Final might have
brought the rafters down, forcing the construction of THE NEW GARDEN.
Maine gets a close second; fortunately, though, they tended to curtail
    that "M...A...I...N...E...GOOOOOO BLUE!" chant.

Best Comeback Team: SLU came from down 2-0 and 3-2 to beat Cornell in OT,
4-3. Sunday night, they fell behind Clarkson, 3-1 after one, only to
tie it at 4 after two periods before losing, 5-4.

Endurance Award: to NESN's Bob Kurtz and Bob Norton, who did all six games
live, a total of almost 20 on-air hours. Kudos to NESN for its coverage
of college hockey this season, culminating in its decision to pick up the
    NCAA Semifinals in three weeks.

Endurance Award #2: to the lady in the press room who made sandwiches all
weekend long, including for the Bruins-Toronto game Saturday afternoon.

p.s. just got the seedings from Arthur - isn't this list fabulous?
p.p.s. feel free to add to these Awards.
