All in all, this was a great weekend, with only 1 game decided by more than
one goal. I have to agree with a few others here that were not
particularly impressed with the play of the ECAC schools. The games were
close and exciting, that's for sure, but the level of play never approached
the Hockey East games (the last 2 at least; the BU-Providence game was a
clinic in how to not play defense).

Maine-BU thougts: (1) If Cashman was in goal for BU, Maine would have won
by at least 2 goals. Bradley saved BU in the 2nd and early in the 3rd
period. (2) The Hockey East refs have got to be the worst around. McBride
(Maine-NU) can't skate -- he looks like he's waddling out there. Cole
completely mismanaged the title game. He missed some of the most obvious
calls and then directly affected the outcome of the game by calling the
marginal interference penalty on BU with 2 minutes left in regulation (Maine
scored 5 seconds later).

ECAC thoughts: Cornell gets my vote for the best fans. Good volume and
good cheers. (Worst fans: any of the Hockey East teams the first night.
The Garden was like a morgue).

Hockey East announced its awards this weekend. Player of the year went to
BC's David Emma. Coach of the year is UNH's Dick Umile, who led the
Wildcats to their first 20-win season since '84. Rookie of the year went to
UNH goaltender Jeff Levy, who had the best save percentage in Hockey East.
