Just a few thoughts on our (North Dakota) weekend at CC Feb. 25-26...

1. Congrats to Don Lucia and the Tigers on a brilliant turnaround from last
season. CC works hard, has great quickness and doesn't give up (as
evidenced by the fact that they came back to tie us 5-5 after trailing 5-1
in the third period). Colorado College will be a tough team to beat.

2. The Tigers recorded 106 shots on goal in the two game series against the
Sioux, who got a 54-save performance from freshman Toby Kvalevog in the 5-1
CC win last Friday. Kvalevog (WCHA All-Rookie Team goalie we hope) fell
two stops short of the Sioux single-game save record. The next night,
sophomore goalie Kevin Powell made 42 saves for North Dakota.

3. North Dakota had the distinction of playing in the last regular-season,
TWO-GAME series ever at the Broadmoor Arena in Colorado Springs. Being a
sucker for gimmicky souvenirs, I had to buy one of the key chains they were
selling at the rink; the key chains are gold metal with black engraving and
are designed like a ticket for the last regular-season game to be played in
the Broadmoor. The key chain tickets have engraved on them the phrase:

                               "The End of the World"
                                       (Arena)
   Kind of clever I guess.

4. It was 63 degrees (above) -- we have to make that qualification here in
Grand Forks -- in Colorado Springs on Saturday, only 80 degrees warmer than
   it was here last week.....
