Neil asked this, among other things:
>I also would like to ask Keith how he counted the St. Lawrence/Vermont mini-
>game in his standings? Did St. Lawrence get 2 wins and 1 loss?
Yep, St Larry got 2 wins last week, taking them to 20-12-1. The first win
was weighted 1.1 (10% more than a regular season game), the first loss
also 1.1 and the mini-game win 0.3.
So then, here is a breakdown of TCHCR's pairwise comparison of SLU and UVM
for the season (GOM=game outcome measure that I came up with):
Site SLU result GOM Weight Weighted GOM
UVM W 1-0 +12 1.0 +12.0
SLU L 4-5 -12 1.0 -12.0
SLU W 8-2 +14 1.1 +15.4
SLU L 1-3 -13 1.1 -14.3
SLU W 1-0 mini +10 0.3 + 3.0
----- -------
4.5 + 4.1
Average performance is +4.1 / 4.5 = +0.9, which is less than one-tenth
of a win. This +0.9 says that SLU is better than UVM, but not much
better. As a comparison, for teams that SLU swept, its average
performance against them would be more like +11 of +12.
