From The RPI SID:

The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men?s hockey team used three third period goals to break a 3-3 tie and the Engineers went on to defeat the University of New Hampshire, which is ranked sixth in the U.S., 6-4, in RPI?s home debut this evening at Houston Field House in Troy, NY. Rensselaer, which got two goals and an assist from junior Marc Cavosie, improves to 1-1-0 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 2-1-0.

The Engineers got on the board quickly in the first period when Carson Butterwick and Cavosie scored within 1:05 of each other. Butterwick gave the Engineers a 1-0 lead when he scored his first of the season from the slot for a power play goal at the 7:15 mark. Cavosie, a native of nearby Cohoes, NY, doubled the lead when he scored into the upper right corner while falling down. UNH pulled to within one goal when junior Josh Prudden squeezed the puck across the goal line from the side of the crease.

RPI senior Matt Murley scored on a rebound of his own shot just 1:24 into the second period for a 3-1 lead but the Wildcats would come back to tie the score. Lanny Gare, who assisted on his team?s first goal, scored from the slot at 6:44 and Sean Collins tied the game with a power play goal for the bottom of the right face-off circle with just 1:20 left in the middle stanza.

Junior defenseman Danny Eberly, who assisted on two goals, broke the tie at 6:38 when he took a feed from Cavosie and slid the puck by the Wildcats sophomore goaltender, Michael Ayers, who was seeing his first collegiate action. Cavosie then put the Engineers ahead for good at 15:54 when he tallied a shorthanded goal, his fifth goal of the season, high to the glove side. Darren Haydar pulled New Hampshire to within one just 21 seconds later but an unassisted, empty net goal by Jim Henkel, who also had an assist, sealed the victory for RPI.

Kevin Kurk finished with 31 saves for the Engineers, including 16 in the third period, while Ayers stopped 11 shots for UNH.
