Colorado College remains undefeated so far this year, as they completed
the sweep of Alaska Anchorage tonight with a 4-1 victory. It was once
again a quick game, as the trend of 10 or less penalties in a game
continued between these two teams. Different goaltenders tonight for both
teams, with freshman Jeff Sanger for CC and freshman Gregg Naumenko for
Anchorage (who I think must be the little brother of former UND player
Nick Naumenko).

The Tigers got on the board first about 8 minutes into the first period
when Toby Petersen got his second goal of the weekend. Rob Douglas evened
things up for the Seawolves about 5 minutes later for a 1-1 tie. Both
teams were 0-1 on the power play for the 2 penalties called, and shots
were even at 9 each.

CC outshot Anchorage 13-6 in the second period, but nothing too exciting
happened forr most of the period. At one point some people upstairs were
comparing it to the excitement of watching a cross country meet.
Coincidentals called at about the halfway mark, and then CC went on the
power play with 1:13 left in the period. The excitement finally came with
30 seconds left in the period, as freshman Mark Cullen put in the only
power play goal of the weekend to regain the lead for the Tigers at 2-1.

Anchorage started out the third period getting a bench minor for
interference only a few minutes in. I'm not sure what exactly they did,
since I didn't see it, but it was called by an assistant referee. The
Tigers finally became a scoring machine a little after the halfway point,
as Brian Swanson got 2 goals in about 2 1/2 minutes to give CC a 3 goal
cushion. Swanson and Darren Clark both finished the weekend with 5 points.
Shots on goal for the period were 10-6 CC.

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to the Twin Cities to take on Minnesota.
Last year was the first time in 21 years that CC swept the Gophers on the
road. Hopefully they can do as well this year, or at least get a split for
the weekend.
