Did Drury deserve the Hobey last year? Maybe but he lost fair and square to a
better player.

Does Drury deserve the Hobey this year? Absolutely not!

Its true that total points do not decide the winner of the Hobey but its a
very important factor. Drury may not even be the most important player on his
team. Tom Poti and Michelle Laroque can certainly make an arguement that they
are more important to the team than Drury.

In hockey East, the players that all deserve the Hobey more than Drury are
Jason Krog, Marty Reasoner and Steve Kariya. Krog is one of the best players
in the league and putting up the points. Reasoner is the most valuable player
for Boston College and one of the best players in the league. Steve Kariya is
without a doubt the MVP of UMaine. Even the players from Merrimack rank ahead
of Drury.

Just becasue Drury didn't get the Hobey lasy year does not mean that he is
"owed" the Hobey this year. In the two games I've seen Drury play this year,
he's missed the net on many shots and let the puck dribble off his stick on
many others. Its obvious that the pressure is getting to him. Also, I've
noticed that other teams are laying big hits on him that seem to take the
desire out of his game. Maybe if Drury improves his scoring and general play
dramatically in the next two months he'll deserve some consideration but right
now, he does not deserve the Hobey.

Well, I guess Joe Bertagna just doesn't get it. While acknowledging that
Krog, Reasoner and a few others are worthy candidates, he still insists
that Drury is the leading candidate from Hockey East for this year's Hobey.
He bases his rationale on the fact that Drury was the runner up last year,
implying that it is a lifetime (or at least two year) achievement award.
And then, I assume, to justify his opinion, Drury was named Hockey East
Player of the Week based on his one goal/three point weekend.

I will give Joe his due, he admitted that Krog should have been on the HE
Honor Roll last week for his hat trick vs. Maine. And he did apologize for
his slights of other HE Hobey candidates. However, given his comments on
the Hobey race prior to the apology, how sincere could it have been?
