Actually... If you really watched the interaction between Jack Parker
and Shawn Walsh during the BU/Maine game last Saturday, things were
quite amiable. Before the game, Walsh and Parker spoke at the Maine
bench, shook hands, wished each other luck, and patted each other on
the back. They even laughed! Pregame interviews from each coach contained quotes
showing respect for the coaching staffs of the other team. After the
game, Walsh and Parker talked at length before each shook hands with
each member of the opposing team. Post game interviews again
contained compliments from both sides.

I believe each coach has always had respect for the abilities of each
other. This game seemed to indicate that they have taken it to a
higher level. They may be gaining respect for each other on a
personal level. The tradition of the BU/Maine game as one of the
best matchups in college hockey will continue. The only difference
may be that the fierce competition stays on the ice where it belongs.
Competition and respect can go hand in hand!
