Selected items paraphrased from Gregg Wong's College Hockey Notebook in the
12/19 St. Paul Pioneer Press:
20 of the 30 players on the Gophers' roster had GPAs better than 3.0 for
Fall quarter. Greg Zwakman, a senior D from Edina, leads the team with a
3.8 in management. Senior co-captain Dan Trebil, an honor student in the
Institute of Technology, had a 3.67. Freshmen leaders are D Bill Kohn and F
Mike Anderson at 3.5. Dartmouth transfer Darik Buchar, a sophomore
red-shirt goalie, had a 3.66.
From the "Around the WCHA" portion:
CC is one WCHA game shy of tying Denver's WCHA-record 17-game WCHA unbeaten
streak.
Michigan Tech D Travis VanTighem has a separated shoulder and should miss 2
to 3 weeks.
Northern Michigan's 10 straight losses are one shy of the team's record
losing streak, set in 1982.
From the "Around the country" portion:
The Hobey Baker committee includes four college coaches: Duluth's Mike
Sertich, Michigan's Red Berenson, Brown's Bob Gaudet, and Northeastern's Ben
Smith. Also on the 18-member committee are Art Berglund of USA Hockey and
professional scouts and media members.
Leading scorers for visiting teams for the Mariucci Classic:
Harvard: Brad Konik 6-11--17 Leads ECAC in league scoring
New Hampshire: Mark Mowers 10-14--24
Bowling Green: Mike Johnson 10-16--26
Vermont's top line is 1-2-3 in ECAC overall scoring.
Eric Perrin: 9-19--28
Martin St. Louis: 4-21--25
J. C. Ruid: 15-9--24
At 13-1-1, BU's off to their best start since their NC$$ championship season
in 1977-78.
I'll quote this one directly:
"What home ice advantage? Home teams in the Central Collegiate Hockey
Association are 36-36-2."
