What I had heard (and what Siren alluded to) was that he was unhappy with his
ice time.

I know that situation extremely well (I started University at 16, though in
hockey terms I was a 17-year-old). It is a tough adjustment to make, and I
can't imagine getting used to everything and having to balance hockey on
top of that.

The fact that he had only been in Canada since the fall of 94 makes it
even tougher, because I'd bet his command of English wasn't perfect yet.

I assume that you mean he can't play College Hockey in the "no coach would
have him" sense. He hasn't done anything to legally toast his eligibility
that I can see.

But you're right, he's almost certainly played his last college game. I doubt
Mark Morris would want him back, and he's not the kind of kid to sit out a
year.

He will only be a 17-year-old next year, and he will likely play Major
Junior, I would think. He'll be in the CHL's European draft next summer,
and there was a chance that even if he had stayed at Clarkson, he would
have gone Major this season.

[Note: This assumes that Baumgartner has left Clarkson, and until we see
either the Gatineau Intrepide with him in the lineup, or Clarkson with him
off the roster, we won't know for sure.]

See you later,
John
