That was confusing us too.

According to today's Wisconsin State Journal, twice the officials
ruled differently than had been done all year (at least in the
WCHA and CCHA), including the matching minors that lead to the 4-3
power play during which Michigan scored the game-winning goal.

Quoting from the paper:

"It's right in the rule book," Sauer said with disgust. "That's a
   big part of the game."

NCAA [hockey committee] chairman Rick Comley siad the officials felt
they made the right call, even if a rule clarification in October
indicated otherwise. "The feel they were in the right, as it's
listed in their manual, but that's different than the WCHA has
called since Oct. 26," Comley said. "What does it point out? The
   problems in college hockey."

In other notes from today's paper:

The puck Minnesota Coach Doug WOog was given for his 300th
victory has the University of Wisconsin Bucky Badger logo on it.
"Its on Bucky Badger staionery, how's that? It will be all right,
though, I'll just turn it over."

West Regional All Tournament Team:

        Goal: Kirk Daubenspeck, Wisconsin
        Defense: Brian Rafalksi, Wisconsin
                        Dan Trebil, Minnesota
        Forwards: Mike Strobel, Wisconsin
                        Nick Checco, Minnesota
                        Mike Knuble, Michigan

        Outstanding Player: Mike Knuble, Michigan
