At the Met Center yesterday the South team and the East team played to a 5-5
tie. In the evening session the North beat the West 4-2. FESTIVAL NOTES FROM
THE STAR TRIBUNE: The East (team) tie extended an amazing streak. While the
geographic names are assigned to the teams only to differentiate the drafted
players, no team carrying the East label has won a game at the festival since
1987. But the loss and the tie still give the East a chance to reach the
gold-medal game, while two losses would have made it a bleak few days.
FESTIVAL NOTES FROM THE MINNESOTA DAILY: The youngest player in ice hockey at
the Festival is 17-year-old Scott LaChance of Boston University. The oldest is
23-year-old goaltender Matt Delguidice of Maine. This is Delguidice's third
Festival. In Sunday's ice hockey scrimmage game between the South and the
East, Gopher senior captain Ben Hankinson and North Dakota Freshman Marty
Schriner dropped the gloves, with Hankinson eventually knocking Schriner's
face mask off and getting several blows to the head. Schriner, who played
junior hockey in Canada last season, apparently had been bragging to teammates
about being 11-0 in fights last year in the juniors. More later. Carol White,
U of Mn.
