I made a visit to see Jeff Weiss of the CCHA last night and he graciously
gave me an electronic copy of his press release for this week. After an
hour or so, I have managed to put it in readable text form (Jeff uses a
page layout program on his Mac). We will try to work something out so
I can get full copies again in the future, but don't expect quick turn
around times from me because of the extra work involved.

The quotes seem to have been munged in the process. Any typos or ugly
formatting are probably my fault. It is almost 750 lines long and takes
up 8 full pages in its original form.

(Wayne--could you archive this for us?)

Keith
PS The Weiss's baby is due the weekend of the CCHA finals. Can you say
major conflict of interest?

CCHA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Wayne Strachan, a sophomore right

offensive player of the week for his performance the weekend of
November 13-14, 1992.

Strachan, a 5-10, 185-pound native of Fort Francis, Ontario, had four
goals in the Lakers three-point (win and a tie) weekend at Ohio State.
In Fridays, 8-1 LSSU victory he tallied a goal in the second period.
In Saturdays 4-4 (ot) tie, Strachans first goal snapped a 1-1 tie
midway through the middle stanza and his second marker again gave LSSU
a one-goal lead (3-2). His hat trick goal put the Lakers in front 4-3
early in the third period. Strachan, who is eligible for the 1993 NHL
supplemental draft, played his junior hockey for the Thunder Bay Flyers
(United States Hockey League).

CCHA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mike Buzak, a sophomore goaltender

CCHA TEAM NOTES
BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY -- After garnering an assist in BGSUs
first game against Toronto freshman left wing Mark Lindsay did not
record a point in his next five games. He scored a goal and added two
assists in Saturdays 5-3 loss at Western Michigan to snap his scoring
drought.

FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY -- Seniors Mike May and Aaron Asp each had a
goal and an assist in the Bulldogs weekend series at Alaska Fairbanks.
May now has 4-4-8 for the year, while Asp totals stand at 3-5-8.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO -- The Flames top three returning
scorers from a year ago had been suffering from the sophomore jinx
until their series against Notre Dame this past weekend. Mark Zdan had
two assists, Derek Knorr had four assists and Chris MacDonald tallied
his first two goals of the campaign.

KENT STATE UNIVERSITY -- Sophomore Dean Sylvester recorded his first
collegiate hat trick in Fridays 6-4 win at Bowling Green. With the
Golden Flashes trailing 4-3, Sylvester scored the games final three
markers for the natural hat trick.

LAKE SUPERIOR STATE UNIVERSITY -- Laker senior defenseman Michael
Smith was a +5 for Fridays 8-1 victory at Ohio State. He was on the
ice for five even-strength goals for, plus a power play goal for.

MIAMI UNIVERSITY -- Junior Brian Savage recorded his 36th career goal
in Fridays 2-2 (ot) tie at Michigan to move into the Redskins top 20
career goal scorers. Saturdays game at Michigan was the fastest CCHA
game of the 1992-93 season (2 hours, 5 minutes).

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN -- Sophomore right wing Anton Fiodorov from St.
Petersburg, Russia (formerly Leningrad) played his first two games of
the year this past weekend. Last year, Fiodorov saw action in one
contest.

MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY -- Spartan head coach Ron Mason will try to
surpass Amo Bessones school record of 367 wins this weekend when MSU
entertains UIC. Mason has 366 victories for the Spartans. One key to
the Spartan turnaround the last two weeks is goaltending. In the first
three league games, MSU netminders had a 5.33 goals-against average
with a .729 save percentage. In the last three conference games, Mike
Buzak has a 2.00 goals-against average with a .926 save percentage.

UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME -- Freshman Jamie Ling has 14 points (4 goals,
10 assists) in eight league contests this year to lead all newcomers in
scoring. Should he continue his current pace of 1.75 points per game
(in league play) he would set the mark for most points in league play
by a freshman. Joe Murphy (Michigan State, 1985-86) had 52 points in
his lone year in the CCHA.

OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY -- Balanced scoring has been the key for the
Buckeyes this year as 10 players have scored the 21 OSU lamp-lighters.
Senior Phil Cadman leads with four, followed by junior Ron White,
sophomore Sacha Guilbault and freshman Randy Holmes with three each.

WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY -- Freshman Chris Brooks is tied with
senior captain Pat Ferschweiler for the scoring lead with 10 points.
Brooks has three goals and seven assists in addition to seeing ice time
on both the power play and penalty killing units for the Broncos.

UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA FAIRBANKS -- Sophomore netminder Brian Fish from
Wasilla, Alaska currently has a 7-0-0 mark with a 2.31 goals-against
average and a .913 save percentage. Last year, he appeared in just
four games compiling a 1-1-0 record with a 4.61 goals-against average
and a .859 save percentage. Freshman Dima Kulmanovsky (a 19-year-old
from Khabarovsk, Russia) saw his first action in Fridays win over
Ferris State. Kulmanovsky is the second Russian to play in the CCHA,
following Michigans Anton Fiodorov.
