				CAPODANNO HONORED BY MASCAC

BUZZARDS BAY, MA–Sophomore forward Giancarlo Capodanno (Mountainside, NJ/N.J. Rockets-AtJHL) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team has been honored by the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference.

Capodanno has been named MASCAC Player of the Week. It’s the first time this season that Capodanno has been honored, and the fourth time this year that a Corsair has won a MASCAC weekly hockey award.

Last week, Capodanno led UMass Dartmouth with three goals and two assists for five points as the Corsairs swept both of their games, defeating Southern New Hampshire and Framingham State. He had a goal and an assist against FSC while scoring the winning goal against the Rams. Against Southern New Hampshire, Capodanno scored twice and added one assist and was named the game's first star as UMD scored five goals in the third period to earn the victory. For the season, he leads UMass Dartmouth in goals (10) and points (18).

“Gio has really been upping his game in the past few weeks,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. “He’s playing with a lot more vigor and intensity, and it has resulted in some important goals and nice setups between him and his line mates, (senior forward) Aaron Blades (Chino, CA/Cushing Academy) and (sophomore forward) Rob Dudley (Douglas, MA/Middlesex School). The three of them seem to have found a good chemistry, and it’s helped our team, as we’re turning the corner, winning two games last week.”

The Corsairs are 7-10-1 and will return to action when they visit Fitchburg State in a MASCAC game Thursday evening.
