CCHA PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mike Bales, a junior goaltender from The Ohio State
University, has been selected CCHA Player of the Week for the week ending
March 8, 1992.

Bales, a 6-0, 185-pound native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, stopped 68 of 72
University of Illinois at Chicago shots over the weekend (.944 save percentage)
in the Buckeyes road sweep at UIC. The two wins moved Ohio State into eighth
place and the final CCHA playoff spot. He made 34 saves each night, while
allowing just four goals and recording three consecutive shutout periods
(third on Friday, first and second on Saturday).

Bales, a June 1990 draft selection of the Boston Bruins, completed the regular
season with 994 saves (tops among all CCHA netminders).

                                      NOTES

CCHA closer than ever: Michigan's 47 points is the lowest by a regular season
champion in the last eight years (since the league had nine teams). Bowling
Green's 19 points is the most accumulated by a ninth place team.

CCHA stepping stone to NHL: Thirty-two current National Hockey League players
honed their skills in the CCHA. Another 15 players who have seen action in
the NHL this season also played in the CCHA.

CCHA Championship Press Conference: The 1992 CCHA Championship Press
Conference will be held on Monday, March 16th at 11:30 a.m. in the Olympia
Room of Joe Louis Arena. The CCHA All-League and All-Academic teams will be
announced along with the championship team coaches being present.

Televised CCHA On-Campus Playoff game selected: The Saturday, March 14th CCHA
Playoff contest to be aired live by PASS at 7:30 p.m. will feature the
University of Michigan entertaining Ohio State University.

Felsner breaks Michigan career point record: With a goal and an assist in
Tuesday's 4-2 win over Bowling Green, Michigan senior Denny Felsner broke Dave
Debol's ('75-78) record of 246 career points. In 156 games, Felsner has 131
goals and 116 assists for 247 points.

Starting a new streak: After working the first 56 games of the Bowling Green-
Michigan hockey series, University of Michigan assistant sports information
director Jim Schneider missed the Michigan at BGSU contest on February 25th.
He started a new streak this past Tuesday when Michigan defeated the visiting
Falcons 4-2. Schneider was a student assistant in the BGSU sports information
office during the 1971-72 season (the first year BG and Michigan played).

Falcons 20-year playoff streak ends: Bowling Green, the only team to be a
member of the CCHA all 21 years, failed to qualify for the CCHA playoffs for
the first time ever this season. BG also had its first losing season at home.

Tulik ties WMU career games played mark: Western Michigan senior defenseman
Brian Tulik has played in 166 career games for the Broncos tying the record
set by Tom Auge (1988-91). This season, Tulik is a +19 (fourth among defense-
men and tied-for-ninth among all CCHA skaters).

Ferris State posts best back-to-back years: The Bulldogs have recorded their
best back-to-back seasons in school history. Last year, FSU went 15-12-5 in
league play and this season the Bulldogs compiled an 11-15-6 mark.

House leading Miami attack: Miami University senior Ken House has 16 points
(six goals, 10 assists) in the last nine games.

OSU's Loney reaches 20-goal plateau: Buckeye freshman Brian Loney scored a
power play goal Saturday night to reach the 20-goal mark (OSU is the only CCHA
team with four 20-goal scorers). He has at least one point in 13 of the last
14 games scoring six goals and adding 19 assists for 25 points.

Smith's point-streak now at 23 games: Ohio State senior David Smith could tie
the mark for longest point streak this season (held by Northern Michigan's Jim
Hiller at 25 games) as the Buckeyes travel to Michigan to face the Wolverines
in the first round of the CCHA playoffs.

Home away from home?: Michigan State recorded a win and a tie this past
weekend at Miami's Goggin Arena. The Spartans are now 16-2-1 in their last 19
games in Oxford.
