Yesterday North Dakota State University (Fargo, ND)
launched a season ticket drive for a new mens and
womens Div. 1 hockey team starting 01-02. NDSU hopes
to sell 6000 season tickets. Hockey at NDSU is
contingent on an April 18 vote on whether to extend a
1/2% sales tax that was used to build the 19,000
Fargodome.
If the extension is passed Fargo will build an 8,000
seat multi-use arena that is estimated to cost $40-45
million? Along with the main arena a 2nd sheet will be
included which will seat 2500 and will be the home of
the NDSU womens hockey team.
NDSU also began marketing NDSU hockey jerseys and
other apparel.
For those of you who don't know NDSU has an enrollment
of about 10,000 and is expected to pass UND as North
Dakota's largest university in the next 5 years. NDSU
competes with UND, SCSU, Minn St. Mankato, and UNO in
all other sports in the Div. 2 North Central
Conference. NDSU's commitment to athletics is second
to none at the division 2 level. The Bison have won
multiple NCAA II titles in football, womens BB,
wrestling, men's and women's track and field, and
Cross Country.
Being a business owner I got 2nd dibs (after booster
of course) on tickets and reserved my 4. I have my
fingers crossed on this one. If the vote gets
overturned NDSU can kiss hockey goodbye.
