The Western Collegiate Hockey Association once again led in college
hockey attendance for the 1997-98 season, with eight of its nine teams
placing among the top 15 NCAA Division 1 schools in average home
attendance in figures compiled by NCAA Statistics.
The University of Minnesota ranked first for the third straight season
with a college hockey record average of 10,056 for 20 home dates,
followed by the University of Wisconsin in third place with 8,214 per
game over 18 games.
The only college hockey conference to surpass 1,000,000 in home
attendance for a season, the 1997-98 campaign marked the fifth
consecutive year the WCHA has surpassed the seven-figure mark and set a
new standard among college hockey conferences with an average home
attendance of 6,087 per game.
