TEXT/PLAIN (132 lines)
Saturday night the Brown Bears fought to keep their playoff hopes alive
and defeated the Princeton Tigers handily by a score of 6-0. It was
sophomore goalie Scott Stirling's first career shutout and the first one
for Bruno since a February 1995 win over Dartmouth.

Comparing tonights game to Friday's is like comparing apples and oranges.
Brown played a sharper, more agressive defense and altogether played much
better as a team. Princeton's rough-and-tumble style got them in a lot of
trouble tonight, as Hansen found his whistle tonight and used it
frequently.

Brown got on the board quickly with a goal by Damian Prescott just 22
seconds into the game, where got the feed from Michael Bent and beat
Erasmo Saltarelli. Brown would go on a the power play later in the period
after a holding call on Joe Pelle, where Jade Kersey deflected a shot from
the left point for Brown's second goal at 16:17.

The second started off with a few penalties but none of them would be
converted. Later Brent Hoiness would drive up the left wing deep and then
in, and somehow slipped one through the legs of Saltarelli to hit the
backside of the far post and deflect into the goal at 7:50. Saltarelli was
very unhappy about this goal and protested loudly, but it stood. Four
minutes later Paul Giblin would score Brown's fourth goal at 11:45 by just
stuffing and stuffing it until finally it slipped through Saltarelli's
pads and in.

Princeton started off the third period with backup goalie Nick Rankin
between the pipes, and Brown welcomed him to the game with a goal 38
seconds into the period. Jeff Lawler drove across the slot left to right
and shot, and Rankin made the stop on the ice face-first. But momentum
carried him away from the action and the puck was left in the crease,
where Bent knocked it in. The middle of this period was full of
penalties to both sides, including a spearing major/game misconduct for
Brown defenseman Jimmy Andersson and a 10 minute misconduct to Princeton's
Casson Masters for roughing it up shortly thereafter. Princeton also
inserted third-string goalie Craig Bradley halfway through the period.
No goals would come out of the ensuing craziness (including a minute of
3-on-3) but at the end of the period Jade Kersey got the puck behind the
Princeton net and fed Paul Giblin in front, who beat Bradley cleanly into
the right side of the net. The period would end with Brown up 6-0 to force
game three on Sunday.

Princeton's penalties certainly hurt them tonight, as they never really
developed an offensive rhythm, but Brown played very well tonight. This is
interesting in light of the fact that freshman standout Jon Zielinski left
last night for good with a knee injury, and Brown was forced to shake up
its lines for essentially the first time in 1998. It seemed to work out
OK. However more shakups may be necessary tomorrow as it looks like
Andersson won't be playing after his game misconduct in the third. We'll
see which teams show up tomorrow to get to Placid.
