I wouldn't jump on him quite yet. We're still early enough in the season
that one's perception of a team is still based partly on last year's
performance. (In Wisconsin's case, a 7th-place finish and first-round
elimination.) It's still an open question as to whether Wisconsin is just
off to a good start, or if they really are an elite team. By the same
token, it's still an open question as to whether Minnesota is slumping
badly, or if they really do stink.
I usually figure that when 1/3-1/2 of the season is done, what you see is
what you'll get, as far as the standings are concerned. In terms of
time, I would say that Christmas is a natural guidepost (like the 4th of
July in baseball).
