I meant IF they were compared to the other D1 teams! I have a CCHP rating
for them and they'd be down behind Air Force based on the small number of
games they played against D1 programs. That doesn't make them D1 or good,
but they sure weren't anywhere near as bad as some of the teams we've
brought to Fairbanks to fill out a schedule in the past. They were very
competitive and were out to try to prove themselves. It was a huge series
for them and they went home very happy with one tie on Saturday. Fairbanks
had woken up and taken a 3-2 lead after falling behind 2-0 in the first
period, but WSU scored with 25 seconds remaining on a delayed penalty and
with the goaltender pulled to tied the score. It was the first start of the
year for the UAF goaltender, Menard, but still Wayne State played
surprisingly well.
