There is apparently a new development in the ongoing litigation by five female
Red Raiders who have sued the university to force the upgrading of women's
hockey to varsity status. The previous two court decisions, as reported by
Bill Fenwick, have proceeded as follows:

Round One: Magistrate David N. Hurd rules in September, 1992 that Colgate was
in violation of federal sex discrimination laws. He orders the university to
elevate the women's hockey team to varsity status by the 1994-95 season.

Round Two: The 2nd US Court of Appeals vacates the decision in April, 1993 on
the grounds that the suit is moot. None of the five plaintiffs will benefit
from the suit since they will all have graduated by next spring.

Round 2A: The five plaintiffshave now re-approached Hurd to examine their
motion to amend the complaint to include all female hockey players at Colgate.

Any lawyers out on the list who can predict an outcome?
