The Maine State Library is happy to announce that LearningExpress Library is now available statewide for public libraries, K-12 schools, colleges and universities, career centers and adult education locations. In addition to the expanded access there is also a brand new platform and look to LearningExpress Library and some extras we didn't have access to before! We thank Maine InfoNet and the Fogler Library for contributions of time and money -it would not have happened without their assistance!
We are introducing LearningExpress Library 3.0 to all Maine users and retaining the older LearningExpress 2.0 until October 31 to allow people to finish current courses and tests. We are considering this a "soft" launch and really want everyone to test and make sure they can access the new site from your buildings!
IMPORTANT:
Everyone - including people who already have accounts in the old version must register for the new 3.0 version. None of the old user accounts will transfer over to the new platform
The biggest change is that registration now requires an email address. That email address will become your LearningExpress Library 3.0 username.
To accomplish this transition we have created a LearningExpress Library "Splash" page that directs users to register for the new 3.0 version but also provides access to the older version.
This can be found at: http://www.maine.gov/msl/lel.htm
Please update your bookmarks and shortcuts! Learning Express Library can also be accessed via the MARVEL database list - look under the "L".
Access from home still requires users to login via MARVEL (to authenticate them as a Maine citizen) and then login in to LearningExpress Library (creating their own protected learning space). This double login can be difficult for the home user to understand. We have created a handout that we hope will be helpful. This can be found at: http://www.maine.gov/msl/digital/learnexp/quick-start-msl.pdf
The new LearningExpress Library 3.0 is structured differently - so you will want to spend some time acquainting yourself with the new format. There is a 16 minute video that covers the full site - but this longer video is broken into shorter chunks that target Registering, Logging in, the Centers, etc. These videos should come in handy when working with patrons or students and are available without logging in or registering. Currently it seems that the video page has some difficulties - I am sure that will be resolved and we'll let you know when they are up and running.

Change always comes with some bumps in the road and things that don't quite work the way we want or expect. We do want to know what works and doesn't work - so please give us that feedback through the Help Form at: http://www.maine.gov/msl/digital/learnexp/help.htm
Note to school librarians - if you are unable to access LearningExpress Library please check to see if you can access other MARVEL databases. It could be that your school's IP address range changed during the summer and Maine InfoNet will need to update that information.
Note to adult education sites - please let us know via the same form if you are unable to connect to LearningExpress Library.

Thanks for your patience during this statewide rollout! This is a great resource that is now statewide!
