The Maine State Library is please to offer the program - Kick Start
Your Library Programs for Infants, Toddlers and Preschool Children.
Topics covered include:
- Competencies for librarians working with youth in public libraries -
Maine Department of Education learning guidelines for infants, toddlers
and preschoolers
- Milestones in early childhood development
- Early literacy skills
- Making it fun
- Sample programs
- Planning resources
- Promotion
- Story time etiquette for parents
- Evaluation
Christine McNew is a youth librarian with twenty-one years of experience
with programs for children, teens, and youth librarians in public
libraries. Christine formerly served as the Youth Services Consultant
for the Texas State Library and Archive Commission where she worked with
both public libraries and school libraries as the Department of
Education liaison. She specializes in Early Literacy, Early Math and
Science, Environmental Education, Summer Reading Program Planning,
Online and Face-to-Face training.
The program will be offer in three locations:
October 9th in the CMLD in Augusta @ The Elks' Lodge
October 10th in the SMLD in Portland (TBA)
October 11th in the NLMD in the Story Room @ Bangor Public Library
