Good Afternoon Everyone,

The Maine State Library is pleased to announce that BJ Jamieson has been selected as the new Librarian III: Reference Librarian - Genealogy Specialist. BJ replaces long time MSL staff member and reference librarian, Emily Schroeder, who retired this past January.

BJ comes to us from Belfast Public Library where she has been serving as a full-time reference/special collections librarian. Besides her passion for all things genealogy, BJ has a BA in Public Policy, a MA in Linguistics, her MLS in Library Science Archives/Special Collections (Clarion University-PA); and a postgraduate certificate in genealogical studies from the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland). She has been a practicing professional genealogist and is quickly becoming known throughout the state as a resource, especially in Irish and Scottish ancestry. She presents frequently at historical societies, museum and library conferences/workshops, and most recently has been teaching in UMA's online librarianship program. Some of you may already know her through her existing professional affiliations with Maine State Library Association, Maine Genealogical Society, Association of Professional Genealogists, and local genealogical/historical societies. BJ's "official" first day here at the Maine State Library will be Monday, August 20th.

BJ tells me when she isn't helping library patrons find their ancestors, she indulges in her obsessions with knitting, playing with her cats, planning her next trip to Scotland, and watching British t.v. quiz shows! Please give her a warm welcome as she steps into this new role!
