Good morning all-

The wait is over- you can change the save-the-date on your calendar and register for Spring Council on the MSL CE calendar https://maine-msl.libcal.com/event/10700033. Here are the details:

Plan on joining colleagues from across your region for a hybrid meeting on June 7, 9:00-12:00.

How do I attend?

You will register to attend in-person at your region's hub library (region 9 has two hubs, please pick the one most convenient for you).

Each hub will join for the speakers via Zoom followed by in-person discussion. The day will close via Zoom.

What will we talk about?

During the quarterly MLAC Meeting, region reps discussed concerns about ongoing challenging issues libraries are facing across the state- from potential book challenges to a rise in serving people experiencing homelessness or addiction, library workers are dealing with many difficult situations. In recognition of all of this, we'll be joined by Kerrie Lattari with York public schools who will share experiences with recent book challenges and what you can do to make sure your library's polices are where they need to be to protect the library. This will set the stage for the in-person discussions. We will also be joined by Lori Fisher who, in addition to being State Librarian, is certified by the Yoga Alliance and has been a yoga instructor for many years. Lori will lead a discussion of the practice of breathwork and mindfulness for selfcare.

Following the Zoom presentations, hub libraries will host in-person discussions focusing on how library policies can help mitigate some of the stress that comes along with difficult topics, controversial programming, and more. Bring along one (or more) of your library policies and workshop how to improve it during the discussion.

Agenda

9:00- Gather at your hub library

9:15-9:30- Quarterly MLAC business meeting

9:30-10:30- Speaker presentations

10:30- Break and gather locally for discussion

11:45-12:00- Reconvene via Zoom for share-out and closing

12:00- Adjourn

We hope you can make it!
Marijke
