Hello to all college hockey buffs everywhere!
I saw my first game of the year tonight...and it wasn't a Merrimack game.
Sportschannel New England covered the opening night of Illinois-Chicago hockey.
It was an excellent game to say the least.
Illinois-Chicago's opponent, Ohio State, played an excellent game, but UIC
was just slightly better, in a 3-2 victory.
The story was like this...a very even first period, but UIC broke thru twice,
in a period where the shots were equal at 12 a piece. The second period
was ALL Ohio State as they peltered Jon Hillebrandt. Hillebrandt played the
way he did last year though, and stopped 13 of 15 in the second period.
Going to the third it was 2-2. UIC owned the third period but could only
put one goal home. HOwever, it was all they needed. Link Besser (sp?) scored
the winner with about 9:00 left.
The final shots favored OSU, but it was only by a few shots.
THe star of the game was Jon Hillebrandt...no surprise. He played very well
for UIC.
And from other scores I heard that Kent State won, Lake Superior won, Michigan
won, and (* you didn't think you'd get out of here without seeing this, did
you?*) MERRIMACK 5 WESTERN MICHIGAN 4 was announced at the pavillion. I
heard
it was a final, but I can't confirm it. I hope so...have to support the
alma matre. Mike will fill us in on details at some future point.
Well that's all for now...
