LATE GOAL GIVES MEN'S HOCKEY FREAKOUT! WIN
Kirk MacDonald's goal with 8.3 seconds remaining downs Brown, 3-2

Junior Kirk MacDonald scored on a slapshot from the top of the right
faceoff circle with just 8.3 seconds left to give Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute (RPI) and ECAC Hockey League Division I men's hockey win over
Brown, 3-2, before a sellout crowd of 5,152 at the Houston Field House in
Troy, N.Y. in the 28th annual Big Red Freakout! game.

With the victory, Rensselaer goes to 13-17-2 and 5-12-1 in the ECACHL,
moving into tenth place. Brown remains in sixth place in the ECACHL with a
13-8-3 and 8-7-2 in the ECACHL.

With time running down, MacDonald recovered the puck in neutral ice and
took it up ice. He took a quick slapshot that rose and just avoided Brown
goalie Adam D'Alba's left shoulder and the crossbar to go in for the 3-2
victory.

The Engineers are now unbeaten in their last 15 Freakout! games, going
11-0-4 in that span.

The Engineers came out of the gates flying, peppering D'Alba with two shots
before the game was one minute old. However, a five-on-three opportunity
for Brown gave the Bears a 5-3 advantage in shots. At the midway point of
the period, RPI again put the pressure on D'Alba, firing three shots in a
row with D'Alba on the ground. The freshman goalie stopped all of them and
then a fourth shot hit the post to keep the Engineers off the board. RPI
broke through at 14:55 of the first period when sophomore Oren Eizenman
collected a loose puck in the slot and fired it into an open net, just two
seconds after an Engineers' power-play ended. Kevin Broad and Alexander
Valentin earned the assists on the goal.

The Bears knotted the game three minutes later when freshman Brian McNary
dug the puck out of the corner and connected with sophomore Sean Dersch at
the right face-off circle. Dersh one-timed the pass over Andrew Martin's
right shoulder for his sixth goal of the year.

Dersch and McNary combined with sophomore Antonin Roux to give Brown a 2-1
lead just 1:28 into the second period. Dersch fired a shot on Martin and
the rebound squirted out to Roux, who was on the endline to the left of the
net. Roux tallied on the far side, his sixth goal of the season.

RPI opened the third period on the power-play and just 36 seconds into the
frame, senior Nick Economakos tied the game at 2-2, knocking in the rebound
of a shot from Kevin Croxton. Sophomore Jake Luthi, who made the head-man
pass, also assisted on the goal.

Rensselaer returns to the ice on Friday night when they travel to first
place Cornell for a league game. Brown will host St. Lawrence next Friday
in an ECACHL tilt. Both games begin at 7pm.
