Hello hockey fans,

Well Dartmouth's season ended this past weekend so I thought I share some of
my thoughts and wish everyone luck in the playoffs.

This really represented a turnaround year for the team. The five graduating
seniors provided alot of leadership to the young team and showed how to stick
with it through difficult times. The team record has not been spectacular
over the last few years and the seniors have seen 4 coaches in four years
(although one was only for 11 days).

Our current coach, Roger Demment, has brought stability to the situation and
a very positie attitude to the team. Recruiting has been outstanding with
most of the scoring coming from Freshman and Sophomores this year. The
Dartmouth administration has made a commitment to bring hockey back as a
strong sport at Dartmouth and the future looks promising.

I don't think the team has received enough credit for its play in the latter
part of the season (since Feb). Whenever we have won or tied it seems to be
the result of our opponents having an off night - not that Dartmouth has
finally begun to click and play respectable hockey. Since Feb 1, our record
has been 2-5-2, but all the games have been close. Three of the losses have
been 2 point losses, each with an empty netter at the end of the game (St.
Lawrence, Harvard, and Colgate), we tied RPI and Yale, and defeated Union and
Cornell.

I'd be interested in hearing some impressions others have had about
Dartmouth's play at their home rinks during the latter part of the season
(I've seen them at Dartmouth). It has been a long few years and about 10
years since our last winning season. With the renewed commitment to hockey on
the part of the administration, two successful recruiting years behind us and
this years recruiting apparently going well, I look forward to being in the
playoffs next year.
