BLOOMINGBURG, IRWIN, MEYERS AND PEMBERTON TO ATTEND PROVIDENCE COLLEGE
TOTAL OF SEVEN NEW PLAYERS ON 2002-03 HOCKEY ROSTER

        PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College hockey coach Paul Pooley today
announced that student-athletes Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich.), Luke
Irwin (Burnsville, Minn.), Nate Meyers (Maple Glen, Pa.) and James
Pemberton (Cumberland, R.I.) will attend Providence College beginning in
September 2002.  These four join Torry Gajda (Westfield, Mass.), Bobby
Goepfert (Kings Park, N.Y.) and Bryan Horan (Farmington, Conn.) for a total
of seven new players on the 2002-03 hockey roster.
        Bloomingburg, a 6-foot, 190-pound left wing, recently completed his third
season with the Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League.  He will
become the first player ever from the North American Hockey League to play
at Providence College.  In 47 games this season, Bloomingburg  scored 26
goals and notched 22 assists.  For his efforts, he earned Second Team
All-NAHL honors.  He participated in the 2001-02 Top Prospects' Tournament
and was a member of the 2001-02 Team USA squad that participated in the
Viking Cup Tournament.  Bloomingburg, a graduate of Fossil Ridge (Texas)
High School, is the son of David Bloomingburg and Brenda Inzano.
        Irwin, a 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound defenseman finished his second season
with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League.  He
scored seven goals and registered 14 assists in 60 games for Des Moines.
Irwin served as an assistant captain for the Buccaneers in 2001-02.  Irwin,
a graduate of Benilde St. Margaret's High School in Minnesota, is the son
of Randy and Virginia Irwin.
        Meyers, a 6-foot, 200-pound left wing, established the  record for most
goals in a season (27) by a member of the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the
USHL.  In addition to his 27 goals in 2001-02, Meyers also recorded 25
assists in 58 games.  He was named Cedar Rapids Roughriders' Offensive
Player of the Year in 2001-02.  Meyers led the USHL in penalty minutes with
231 this season.  He is the son of Chuck and Leslie Meyers.  Meyers is a
graduate of Sault Ste. Marie (Mich.) High School.
        Pemberton, a 6-foot-4-inch, 210-pound defenseman, completed his first
season with the New England Coyotes of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.
In 45 games this season for the Coyotes, Pemberton scored 17 goals and
added 18 assists.  Pemberton was the top scoring defenseman for the Coyotes
and participated in the 2001-02 EJHL All-Star Game.  In 2001, he received
the Best Pro Prospect Award at Hockey Night In Boston.  This season,
Pemberton was named Most Valuable Player (Junior Division) at Hockey Night
In Boston.  Prior to the 2001-02 season, he played three seasons for Mount
St. Charles Academy.  In 2000-01, he earned Rhode Island High School Hockey
Second Team All-State honors.  Pemberton, who will graduate from Ellington
(Conn.) High School this spring, is the son of Robert and Lori Pemberton.
        "This recruiting class combines talent, size and character to our lineup,"
Pooley said.  "Each student-athlete is a quality person, who has the desire
to become the best they can be in every facet of his life.  We are very
excited with the addition of these seven players and with their potential
to impact our program."
