Ah yes. I remember the game well, back in my undergraduate days.
Back then, there was no Hockey East. The ECAC consisted of 17 teams
and the schedule was so unbalanced that you might play one team two or
three times a season but not play other teams at all.
As a result of that game, the ECAC decreed that RPI and Colgate would not
play each other again for 4 years so that all members of both teams
would be gone before the next meeting.
 
The sad part about it is that, although everyone was fighting, there
was less violence in that game than there typically is today in one
period of AHL hockey. Times change, but sometimes not for the better.
