They were eligible, though they didn't make it.  Prior to this, when Army
rejoined the ECAC Div. I league in the '80s, they spent two (?) years as a
"provisional" member (they did not play a full complement of league games) and
were ineligible for the playoffs during that time.  But when they became a full
ECAC member for the 1986-87 season, the Cadets were eligible for the playoffs
immediately.
