Having attended the UMD-MTU series, I think the story of the game was that
the referees were making every effort they could to call a tight game and
try to prevent anything from getting out of hand (it ended up happening
anyway despite their efforts).  Because Tech is the type of team that plays
very physical, refs that call tight games will obviously seem very biased
to Tech fans.
UMD is pretty much the opposite - they are not a very physical team and
thus benefit by refs who call a tight game (even though they still
suffered quite a few injuries on the weekend).
Having seen Krieger ref at the high school level, Div. III, and Div. I, I
can agree though he does seem to create controversy whenever he refs a game.
