Exactly. The Alberta Junior Hockey League is Junior A (also incorrectly
called Tier II Junior A). Junior A leagues are still considered amateur by
the NC$$. The Junior A leagues are, in fact, the main route to the NC$$ for
Canadians.
 
You have to remember that in Canada, high school hockey is (for the most
part) not a factor in recruiting.
