Scott Monaghan, LSSU SID, is in cyber-prison right now and asked that I
post the Lake State coaching changes for him. MAJ

Lake State hires Borek and LaFontaine

Lake Superior State University Head Hockey Coach Jeff Jackson has a new
coaching staff in place.

John LaFontaine comes to Lake State after coaching in both the North
American Junior Hockey League and Canadian Junior Hockey League.
LaFontaine palyed club hockey at Miami University, with Toronto of the
OHL and Nanaimo Islanders of the Western Hockey League.

John runs his own hockey school in the Detroit area, and is brother to
NHL star Pat. He will serve as assistant coach, replacing Jim Roque.

Scott Borek was tabbed associate head coach by Jackson, replacing Ron
Rolston. Borek moves west from Colby College (Maine). Borek turned the D-III program there into a
playoff contender.

Borek, an '85 graduate of Dartmouth, was an assistant coach at his
alma mater (83-85) and an assistant at Providence College from 85-89.

He has crossed paths with the Laker program before. As Associate coach, he
recruited the Brown team that knocked off LSSU at the 1993 Dexter Shoe Classic in
Orono.

This marks the first time since 1991 that a pair of assistants enter the
Laker program from outside organizations. That year Paul Pooley and Ron
Rolston were the newcomers.

The Lakers (23-12-6) open regular season play on October 20 at Northern
Michigan. The home opener in the renovated Taffy Abel Arena is October 28
against Alaska-Fairbanks.

(BTW: an update of the Gem of the North Arena expansion/renovation can be
found on the LSSU Web page...HTTP:\\WWW.LSSU.EDU check under
athletics. There are photos of the construction from a couple of weeks ago.)
