The Lawrence (Mass.) Eagle-Tribune today printed the following:
 
CHESTNUT HILL - Mike Cavanaugh Jr. of North Andover has been named
assistant coach for Boston College.
 
Cavanaugh comes to BC after spending the past two seasons as an assistant
at Dartmouth College.  Prior to that he served as an assistant for current
BC coach Jerry York at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
 
A 1990 Bowdoin graduate, Cavanaugh earned three varsity hockey letters for
the Polar Bears.  He also owns a master's degree in sports management from
Bowling Green.
 
Cavanaugh's father, Mike, is a football and track coach at North Andover
High.  Like Mike Jr., his younger brother Jim plays football and hockey at
Bowdoin.

Does anyone know who Cavanaugh replaces at BC?  Last year, Jim Logue was
associate head coach at BC, and the assistants were Scott Paluch (from
BGSU) and former Boston Bruin Barry Pedersen.
 
I'm guessing that it could be Pedersen, who last season began co-hosting a
weekend sports talk show on WBZ-AM1030 in Boston along with Dan Roche, my
former play by play partner on Merrimack hockey radio broadcasts.  It could
be that Pedersen does not have the time to continue as BC assistant any
more.
