Notes for 1/10/93:
The past week's action mostly involved intra-league play but there
was plenty of movement in the rating anyway. The big winner is
easily the Harvard Crimson, who took a pair of games against two
highly-ranked opponents on the road by a combined score of 14-5. The
Crimson vault six spots to #4 while two of the biggest losers are
their victims, Clarkson and St. Lawrence, both of which tied Brown as
well. The Golden Knights plummet five spots while the Saints fall
three. Other big winners are BU, St Cloud, Michigan Tech, New
Hampshire, Princeton, and Illinois-Chicago. Losers include RPI,
Fairbanks, Vermont, and Anchorage. The "upset of the week" would
appear to be Illinois-Chicago's 6-4 victory over Michigan, who was
favored by 3.2 goals. Also, SLU was favored by 0.9 goals over
Harvard and lost by 6.
Looking back on last week's action, the system again performed quite
well. Giving ourselves half a win in a few cases that were ties with
close predictions, the system went 26-13. Alot of the misses came in
the ECAC where home teams were favored in every game except Union,
who beat Princeton anyway. Highlighting a few games we had a
prediction of 4.09-4.74, actual 4-5 for Colgate-Dartmouth, predicted
4.11-4.58, actual 4-5 for ND-NMU, and predicted 3.55-3.40, actual 4-3
for Wisconsin-Fairbanks. The system predicted a virtual deadlock in
the Minn vs. Duluth series, which ended 9-9 in total goals, each team
going 1-1 with 1 overtime game.
And this week only, we have an early preview of upcoming action due
to several games early in the week including a Monday matchup in the
CCHA.
We begin in the east where we finish up non-conference action for the
season except for the independents and the Beanpot. Yale hosts BC
early in the week while a four-year, four-school agreement kicks in
this weekend with Maine and Providence hosting the visitors from the
North Country.
Tuesday, January 12:
Boston College 2.77 at YALE 5.24
Friday, January 15 and Saturday, January 16:
Clarkson 2.34 at MAINE 5.84
St Lawrence 3.68 at PROVIDENCE 3.90
A disorganized schedule in the ECAC this week as Colgate and Cornell
meet for the first of their two matchups midweek then each hosts Air
Force on the weekend in non-conference games while several other
teams tie up some loose ends.
Wednesday, January 13:
Colgate 3.73 at CORNELL 4.50
Friday, January 15:
Dartmouth 3.14 at BROWN 5.65
HARVARD 4.88 at Union 1.79

Saturday, January 16:
Air Force 3.24 at COLGATE 5.73
Sunday, January 17:
Dartmouth 3.15 at UNION 3.49
Remember when Maine and Providence finished their season series in
the second week of the season? Now we know why. While they host
Clarkson and SLU respectively, the rest of Hockey East will be
involved in home-and-home series this weekend.
Friday, January 15:

Merrimack 2.89 at UMASS-LOWELL 5.60

schedule this weekend as Alaska-Fairbanks takes its show on the road
for the first time this season.

Friday, January 15:
Ferris State 2.44 at LAKE SUPERIOR 4.48

featuring identical schedules for both nights of the weekend.
