BOSTON, MASS. --  Peter Fregoe recorded his second hat trick of the season
as the ninth-ranked Providence College Friars tied the Boston University
Terriers, 5-5, in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, February 17 at Walter
Brown Arena  in Boston, Mass.
        After being out shot by a 14-6 margin in the opening 20 minutes of play the
Friars trailed the Terriers by only one goal.  The Terriers tallied the
game's first goal at the 4:19 mark of the first period.  Carl Corazzini
tipped a Chris Dyment slap shot past PC goaltender Nolan Schaefer, a
power-play goal.  The Friars' responded, notching power-play goal of their
own at the 5:47 mark. Freshman Regan Kelly recorded his fourth goal of the
season.
        Midway through the first period the Terriers recorded two unanswered goals
to take a 3-1 lead.  Jack Baker and Steve Greeley each tallied a goal for
BU.  On both goals, Schaefer made the initial save, but the swarming
Terriers were able to slip two pucks past the Friars' goaltender.  PC's J.J.
Picinic made it a one-goal game at the  14:55 mark.    Shawn Weiman
controlled the puck in the left corner and fired a centering pass to Picinic
in front of the crease.  Picinic then one-timed the puck past BU netminder
Sean Fields, the goal was Picinic's 10th of the season and second goal in as
many games.
        Fregoe tallied two power-play goal in the second period as PC took a 4-3
lead.  At the 5:24 mark, Jay Leach fired a shot that deflected off Fields to
Fregoe waiting in front of the net.  At the 8:35 mark, Fregoe struck again,
this time collecting a rebound from a Kelly shot, for his 12th goal of the
season.  Fregoe's second goal forced Fields form the game in place of Jason
Tapp.
        The Terriers' Gregg Johnson tied the game 4-4 at the 14:10 mark of the
second period as he fired a slap shot from the left-face off circle that
beat Schaefer on the glove-side.
        PC regained the lead just 59 seconds into the third period as Fregoe
recorded his third goal of the contest.  Fregoe setup in front of the net
and one-timed a pass from Devin Rask, past Tapp for the Friars' fourth
power-play goal of the game.
        The Terriers fought back and tied the game 5-5 at the 9:13 mark on Brian
Collins 13th tally of the season.  Just 27 seconds into overtime PC's Kelly
was called for a holding penalty but the Terriers could not captilize on the
man advantage during the extra period.
         Schaefer stopped 30 shots in the tie, while Fields and Tapp combined for
31 saves for the Terriers.
        With the tie,  Providence's record stands at17-8-5 overall, 11-6-3 in
league play, while Boston University is 12-14-3 overall and 8-9-3 in HOCKEY
EAST action.
        The Friars will return to action against Boston University on Thursday,
February 23  at Tsongas Arena at 7:00 p.m.
