The University of Alaska at Fairbanks (CCHA) routed its downstate
rivals, the University of Alaska at Anchorage (WCHA) by a score of 4-0
on Saturday night to win the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup.
        Before a SRO crowd at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks, Ian Perkins,
UAF's junior netminder, stopped all 22 shots and shutout UAA for the
first time in the 99-game history of the series.
        Jeff Trembecky, reputed to have the hardest shot in college hockey,
after leaving a bewildered Seawolf flat on the ice with a spectacular
fake, drove a slapper on goal with 19 minutes left in the second
period.  Sjon Wynia slipped the rebound into the net to break a 0-0
deadlock.
        Jim Lawrence, one of UAF's outstanding corps of freshmen, finished off
a 3-on-1 rush to make it 2-0 halfway through the third period, and Chris
Kirwan put two nails in the Seawolves' coffin with his second and third
goals of the year.
        The two teams had battled to a 5-5 standoff in Anchorage on Friday
night.  The Nanooks travel to Miami of Ohio this weekend before hosting
Michigan in a major two game set in Fairbanks on Halloween.
