Ah, finally got thru to the CCHA to get the latest press release.

Might as well give you some hi-lites of the BG-OSU series:

The Friday night game at OSU started terribly. The Bucks went up 3-0
after 10 minutes of play. BG looked awful, but then they woke up and
played very well for the last 50. Mike Bales kept the Bucks in the lead
and they iced it with an empty-netter.

So, on Saturday, things could only get off to a better start, no?
Wrong! The Bucks storm out again, leading 3-0 after one and going up
5-0 at the half-way point of the game. BG cuts it to 5-2 with a
shorthander by Martin Jiranek at the end of the second. None of the
fans leave, tho, and they cheer the Falcons on throughout the entire
3rd period. 5-3. 5-4 on a nice play by a pirouetting [sic] Jiranek.
Then defenseman Todd Reirden slips a long shot thru Bales's legs with
less than 2 minutes to go to tie it. Roar!

Overtime for sure, but OSU gets called for a penalty near the end of
the game (Steve Piotrowski strikes again), so BG's powerplay (seemingly
0-fer infinity so far this year) can win it...And Martin taps in the
winner to complete his hat!

And, yes, we had a TON of penalties called. Looking at the stats below,
I noticed a lot of power play chances. But I also notice very good
penalty killing percentages.

Enough already! Keith [log in to unmask]

One-third of NHL players from U.S. Colleges: In research conducted by New
York Ranger scout David McNab there were 326 players (including goalies) from
the 21 NHL teams who played in 50% of their team's regular season and playoff
games during the 1990-91 season. U.S. Colleges had 108 players for 33.1%.

Garrow sets WMU consecutive game record: Bronco senior center Scott Garrow
set the Western Michigan record for consecutive games played on Friday
breaking the school record held by Mike Posma (1987-90). Garrow has now
played in 127 straight games.

Lakers continue CCHA streak: Lake Superior is 20-0-2 in its last 22 regular
season CCHA contests. The Lakers last lost a CCHA game on January 5th at
Ferris State by a 4-1 score. LSSU gained a measure of revenge this past
weekend with two victories in Big Rapids.

Two game-winners times two: Lake Superior's Clayton Beddoes and Western
Michigan's Francois Leroux each scored the game-winning goal both nights this
past weekend for their respective teams. Both of Beddoes GWG snapped ties,
1-1 on Friday, 2-2 on Saturday. His overtime goal on Saturday was the second
OT goal of his collegiate career. His first was in the 1991 CCHA Championship
game vs. Michigan at Joe Louis Arena. Leroux, a freshman left wing from
LaPrairie, Quebec scored WMU's second goal each night. His marker on Friday
broke a 1-1 tie midway through the third period, while his Saturday night
lamp-lighter gave the Broncos a 2-0 lead early in the third period.

Ohio State's Bales leading loop in saves, again!: After setting a CCHA record
with 1,032 saves in CCHA competition last year, Buckeye junior goalie Mike
Bales is picking up where he left off last season. Bales made 33 saves in
Friday's 5-3 win in Columbus, while turning aside 35 shots in Saturday's
overtime loss. Bales played in the win over Kent on October 19th making JUST
26 saves.
