One more thing, that maybe will clarify my last post. Yes, I know that
Martin is leading the ECAC in scoring and has more assists than Eric, but
in watching them play together, I think it is to their advantage when
Eric can bring the puck up ice and dish to Martin for the goal. Don't get
me wrong, because I love watching 'em play and both are excellent scorers
and have great stickhandling skills. I just think that with the speed
Martin can generate coming down on the wing may be a bit too intimidating
for opposing defenders, and they seem to radiate toward Eric coming up
ice, either to intercept the puck or steal it, as opposed to getting out
on Martin. Of course, the teams that cover Martin well can't stop Eric,
and vice versa. The combo of these two is too overwhelming for many teams
with weak-to-average-defense from the blue line on back. Martin, while
possessing great passing ability, seems to be the more natural shooter
and goal scorer. Now, I know there is bound to be some opposition to my
take on this, so I'd like to hear from anyone that holds a different
opinion on Martin vs. Eric, who's the best set-up man?...it makes for
interesting discussion.
