P. S. In a move that was long overdue, the Detroit Red Wings announced that
they will retire the No. 1 jersey of Terry Sawchuk when they host the
Buffalo Sabres on March 6. Sawchuk played 21 years with the Red Wings,
Bruins, Maple Leafs, Kings, and Rangers. He was Rookie of the Year in
1951 and won the Vezina Trophy three times. He still holds the career
records for wins (435) and shutouts (103). Sawchuk died in 1970 and
was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1971.
