Well, they didn't win the Beanpot, but it turns out that the Crimson did win
a title when they beat Cornell Saturday night -- the Ivy League champion-
ship. Of course, it's totally meaningless as far as hockey goes (it doesn't
earn them a berth in the NC$$ tourney, or even the ECAC one for that
matter), but what the hey, they do hoist banners for it. Here are the Ivy
League standings for hockey, along with some belated congratulations for
Harvard:

Team W L T Pts GF GA
-------------------------------------------
Harvard 8 0 1 17 46 17
Brown 6 2 1 13 46 32
Cornell 3 4 1 7 25 29
Princeton 2 5 1 5 22 28
Yale 2 6 0 4 17 42
Dartmouth 1 5 0 2 16 24

The Crimson can wrap up an undefeated Ivy League record by beating (or
tying) Dartmouth this Friday. Doing so would make them the first undefeated
Ivy hockey champion in quite some time (I'll have to look up the exact
figure -- it might go back to the '70s).

By the way, the Beanpot final was actually mentioned on ESPN last night.
Can you believe it -- national exposure! Of course, it was on the 2:30 AM
EST edition (rebroadcast this morning), but it's a start. In giving the
result and showing some highlights (yes, highlights), the commentators said
something along the lines of "Unless you've been there, you can never under-
stand the history and passion of the Beanpot." Not bad for a network that
pays so little attention to college hockey.
